Gracie's Teddy Bear's Picnic

This coming Sunday, 1st April is Gracie's 2nd birthday. I can't believe my little baby girl is turning 2! I can't even tell you where the last 2 years have gone, but they have been the best of my life so far, thanks to a bubbly, funny, loving little girl who just LOVES life. She brings me so much joy!

Due to certain family member's busy social and work schedules, we decided to celebrate Gracie's birthday last weekend with a Teddy Bear's Picnic at the park. I wanted this birthday to be really special for Gracie. I wanted her to have so much fun and to know how much we love her and treasure her.

Now given that we've had next to no rain over the last month, I thought surely, we'd be pretty safe to bet that the weather will be fine for our picnic in the park. However, the whole week leading up to the weekend it was forecast showers for Sunday. Great. Of course it is. Oh well, not much we can do but wait and see (and stress incessantly about whether we would be having a Teddy Bear's picnic inside). It wasn't until about 2pm that afternoon that I looked outside and saw quite confidently that there would be no rain that afternoon. As it turned out, it was the most glorious afternoon, with absolutely PERFECT weather.

So in hindsight, I really needn't have worried at all. But I have a confession to make. I did spend the whole week leading up to this party feeling very stressed about it and worrying about all things from the weather to Gracie's health to having enough food. So Silly. I have realised that when it comes down to it, as long as there are people that Gracie loves and who love Gracie, plus good food (there must be food), Gracie will always have a wonderful time. And that's all that matters. I've realised I put far too many expectations on the day, wanting it to be perfect for Gracie (and lets be honest, for me too) but all the things I was worrying about really didn't matter to Gracie at all. Lesson learnt (although can't promise it wont happen again).

I made Cupcakes for birthday cake, thinking it would be much easier to handle at a park than having to cut a cake and they were a huge success (if I do say so myself). Gracie loved the bears and they were really yummy.

So after all the unnecessary stress about the rain, the food and Gracie, we ended up enjoying a wonderful afternoon with all our dearest family and friends. Everyone brought their favourite Teddy to join in the picnic fun and it really was, Fun. Just as I had hoped it would be.

So Happy Birthday to my Gorgeous Gracie Girl. I'm so excited to see what the next year holds for you!

Love Mummy xoxo

Our Oma had brought along a calender Steph had made when she was really little. It had old pictures of us from when we were kids and we had a good laugh looking through it.

"Bike!" Gracie knew exactly what it was!

P.S. Special thanks to Chris Ingram for taking some snaps whilst I was otherwise occupied with birthday cake and other such shenanigans :)

Brooke's Maternity Photoshoot

This past Sunday afternoon, I had the absolute privilege of photographing Brooke and her husband Dave in a Maternity Photo shoot. This was a particularly special day, because you see, we not only got to spend precious time together capturing the beauty and miracle of pregnancy, but this was also my first EVER semi-official, official photo shoot. To say I was a bit nervous is quite the understatement. I had spent the week preparing, looking at other photographers maternity work, gathering ideas and talking with my good friend Chris Ingram, who has been doing some photography mentoring with me over the past few months.

Sunday came and it was a scorching 41 degrees! Typical! Having been pregnant myself during a summer, I know full well that heat is no friend of a pregnant woman. However the location we had chosen was a very shady park right on Lake Joondalup in Wanneroo and as the late afternoon approached, the scorching sun started to cool. By the time we arrived at the park, it was a nice warm balmy evening and a cool breeze started to blow across the water.

Brooke looked absolutely radiant in all her pregnancy glow and it was so lovely to be able capture some of the special moments shared between Brooke and Dave through the time we had together. We shared so many laughs and as quinea pigs for my first photo shoot, they were so patient and kind. Thank you both for a wonderful afternoon and as I've already said, it has been such a privilege to share this experience with you. I love you guys!

A special mention must go to Mr Chris Ingram at Deprimo Photography for all of his help not only on the day but before and after as well. I have learnt so much through this experience and I certainly owe a lot to your generous sharing of time and knowledge.

Okay enough waffling, here is a sample of the end result.

Brooke has quite the shoe addiction and so it's no surprise that that extends to baby shoes. But they don't know if they are having a boy or a girl, so we photographed a pair for each. Now we just have to wait and see!

Thank you to everyone involved again. This has been such an amazing experience!
